Himachal Pradesh Sees Light Rainfall Amid Significant Monthly Deficiency
Isolated sections of the mid and high hills in Himachal Pradesh experienced light rainfall on Friday, providing a brief respite in a month marked by notably dry conditions. The showers were recorded in parts of several districts, including Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Lahaul Spiti, and Chamba, according to local meteorological reports.
Rainfall Data Reveals Alarming Deficiency
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the state has recorded deficient rainfall for the period from February 1 to February 27. The total rainfall measured just 14.7 mm, which is a staggering 87% less than the normal expected rainfall of 91.9 mm for this time frame. This significant shortfall highlights the dry spell affecting the region.
Among the districts, Solan recorded the lowest rainfall so far this month, with a mere 3 mm. This data underscores the widespread nature of the rainfall deficiency across Himachal Pradesh, impacting both agricultural and water resource sectors.
Temperature Readings Across Tourist Destinations
On Friday, Kukumseri emerged as the coldest location in Himachal Pradesh, registering a minimum temperature of -2.6°C. This chilly reading reflects the ongoing winter conditions in the higher altitudes of the state.
In popular tourist destinations, temperatures varied but remained cool. Manali recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5°C, while Shimla saw 8.5°C, and Dharamshala registered 10.2°C. These figures are typical for the season but are being closely monitored in light of the rainfall patterns.
Implications of the Rainfall Deficit
The deficient rainfall this month could have several implications for Himachal Pradesh, including potential impacts on water availability, agriculture, and hydroelectric power generation. Authorities are likely to assess the situation as the month concludes, with hopes for improved precipitation in the coming weeks to mitigate any adverse effects.
Residents and tourists are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts, especially given the variability in conditions across different hill stations and districts. The light rainfall on Friday, while minimal, may offer some temporary relief, but the overall trend remains a concern for the region's climate balance.
