IMD Yellow Alert: Gurgaon to See Rainfall Sunday

Gurgaon Braces for Wet Sunday with IMD Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for several parts of Haryana, with Gurgaon likely to experience light to moderate rainfall on Sunday. The weather activity is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Weather Systems Behind the Rainfall

According to IMD officials, the impending weather conditions are attributed to a series of western disturbances affecting the western Himalayan region. A significant western disturbance, observed as a cyclonic circulation, is currently present over north Afghanistan and adjoining areas at lower and middle tropospheric levels.

Additionally, an induced cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan at lower levels, with a trough extending from central Pakistan to northwest Uttar Pradesh through Punjab and Haryana. Another upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Gujarat and nearby areas is further strengthening conditions conducive to rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

Temperature Fluctuations Expected

The changing weather patterns are likely to influence temperature readings across the state:

  • A shift in wind patterns may push minimum temperatures up by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours.
  • Cloudy and rainy conditions could lower daytime temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius throughout Haryana.

While the minimum temperature at Gurgaon's IMD observatory could not be recorded on Saturday, nearby Delhi's Aya Nagar station registered a minimum of 6.6°C—approximately 2 degrees below the seasonal normal. The maximum temperature was recorded at 20.1°C, slightly lower than the previous day's 20.3°C.
