Kanpur: After a brief respite of two days, mercury levels once again surged across the Kanpur division, including Kanpur Nagar district, causing discomfort among residents on Friday.
The weather observatory at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, while the Air Force station at Chakeri registered temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature also witnessed a rise and settled at 27.6 degrees Celsius.
High humidity levels added to the summer woes. Humidity was recorded at 63 per cent, while slow north-westerly winds blowing at a speed of 3.2 kmph to 7.8 kmph failed to provide relief, as they were unable to evaporate sweat effectively. Intense heat and sultry weather conditions are expected to continue over the coming days.
Weather Forecast for Kanpur Division
Weather conditions across all districts of the Kanpur division are expected to remain predominantly very hot and dry with intense sunshine. Maximum temperatures are likely to hover between 39 degrees Celsius and 41 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also warned that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in the region.
Expert Insights
According to weather expert at CSA, Dr SN Sunil Pandey, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the presence of atmospheric moisture and increased inflow of humidity, coupled with cloud movement and strong winds, may lead to isolated light drizzle or rain in some pockets of the Kanpur division. As a result, temperatures may fluctuate by one to two degrees on Saturday, though humid and sultry conditions are likely to persist.
Precautionary Measures
Pandey advised people not to venture outside between noon to 4pm. He said that people should keep their body hydrated and cover their face and head while going out.
