The City of Joy continues to shiver as a persistent cold spell tightens its grip, with both day and night temperatures recording a further dip on Saturday. While the intense, biting chill characteristic of peak winter is absent, weather authorities confirm that the colder-than-usual conditions are set to stay for the foreseeable future.
Mercury Takes a Further Dip
Official data from the Alipore observatory shows a clear downward trend. The maximum temperature fell from 22.6°C on Friday to 22°C on Saturday. More notably, the night became chillier as the minimum temperature dropped from 12.1°C to 11.5°C. This consistent dip means that both daytime warmth and nighttime cold are now registering below the normal seasonal average for Kolkata.
Met Office Forecast: Cold Week Ahead
A senior official from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata provided a clear outlook. "We do not expect any significant variation in mercury levels for now," the official stated. The forecast indicates that both maximum and minimum temperatures will continue to hover around 22°C and 12°C respectively, remaining below the normal mark for at least the next week. This guarantees that the city's residents will continue to experience the ongoing cold spell without immediate respite.
Foggy Mornings, Clearer Days Expected
The meteorological department has also predicted the likelihood of morning fog in parts of the city, which could affect visibility during early hours. However, the sky is expected to become clearer later in the day. The combination of low temperatures and possible fog underscores the need for citizens, especially early morning commuters and the elderly, to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during this extended period of cold weather.
