Lucknow Experiences Unseasonal Chill as April Temperatures Mimic February

For the second consecutive day on Wednesday, Lucknow was lashed by strong winds, thunder, and light showers, creating an unusual weather scenario where the month of April felt remarkably like February. The daytime mercury level cascaded to over 10 degrees Celsius below the normal range for this time of year, according to meteorological data.

Temperature Data Reveals Significant Drop

According to the state Met department, the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 27 degrees Celsius, which is a substantial 10.02 units below the normal expected temperature. This figure is almost identical to the mean maximum temperature for the month of February, which typically stands at 26.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on the same day was 18.8 degrees Celsius, registering 0.9 notches below normal. The meteorological office also noted 0.2 mm of rainfall until 5:30 PM.

Weather Systems Behind the Unusual Conditions

Senior scientist Mohammad Danish from the state met department explained the cause of this weather anomaly. "The thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday occurred due to a twin combination of a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and a cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh," he stated. However, both of these weather systems are now expected to weaken. As a result, Thursday is forecast to witness cloudy skies with no rainfall activity, followed by clearer weather in the subsequent days.

Danish added, "Both day and night temperatures will gradually rise in the coming days." For Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Lucknow are anticipated to be around 30 and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively, indicating a slight warming trend.

Statewide Impact and Rainfall Patterns

Meanwhile, the unusual weather conditions were not confined to Lucknow alone. Overcast skies and light rainfall were reported from many parts of Uttar Pradesh, leading to low mercury levels during the daytime across the state. Muzaffarnagar recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 10.6 mm, highlighting the widespread nature of this weather event.

The meteorological department's forecast indicates that the weather is likely to remain dry over western Uttar Pradesh, while rain and thundershowers may occur at isolated places over the eastern regions. This suggests a varied weather pattern as the state transitions out of this cold spell.

Looking Ahead: Gradual Return to Normalcy

As the western disturbance and cyclonic circulation weaken, residents of Lucknow and surrounding areas can expect a gradual return to more typical April weather. The forecasted rise in temperatures over the coming days should alleviate the unseasonal chill, though the recent events serve as a reminder of the dynamic and sometimes unpredictable nature of regional weather patterns.
