Palamu Tiger Reserve and ICICI Foundation Forge Partnership for Conservation Efforts
In a significant move for wildlife preservation, the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) has formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ICICI Foundation, focusing on habitat restoration within the reserve. The agreement was officially signed in Ranchi on Thursday, with senior officials from the state forest department in attendance to witness the collaboration.
Key Signatories and Agreement Details
The MoU was signed by PTR field director S R Natesha and Pawan Kumar, the zonal head of ICICI for Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. According to Kumar, this is a non-financial MoU, where the ICICI Foundation will provide technical support and supervision rather than direct funding. This partnership aims to enhance the reserve's ecological health through various initiatives.
Scope of the Collaboration
Under the new agreement, the ICICI Foundation will undertake several critical projects, including habitat restoration, the creation of grasslands, and efficient management of surface water resources. Additionally, the foundation will explore avenues for school education programs for children residing in villages inside the reserve, promoting environmental awareness and community engagement.
Historical Context of Corporate Support
This MoU builds upon past corporate contributions to PTR. In a previous outreach program in 2025, the reserve received camera traps from the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), aiding in wildlife monitoring. Furthermore, the bank had previously donated a wildlife rescue van to PTR, demonstrating a continued commitment to conservation efforts in the region.
