Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday, highlighting the alarming issue of black toxic water flowing through the state's canals. In a strongly worded statement, Jakhar urged the Chief Minister to wake up and take immediate action to address this environmental and public health crisis.
Jakhar's Concerns Over Canal Water Quality
Jakhar pointed out that the discolored and polluted water in canals is not only a threat to agricultural activities but also poses serious risks to the health of residents in nearby areas. He emphasized that the toxic water could contaminate groundwater and soil, leading to long-term damage to the ecosystem and food safety.
Call for Urgent Government Intervention
The BJP leader demanded that the state government conduct an immediate investigation into the source of the pollution and take corrective measures. He also called for the installation of water treatment plants and stricter enforcement of environmental laws to prevent such incidents in the future. Jakhar warned that if the government fails to act, the consequences could be disastrous for the state's agriculture and public health.
Jakhar's remarks come amid growing concerns over water pollution in Punjab, with several reports highlighting the presence of industrial effluents and untreated sewage in water bodies. The opposition has repeatedly criticized the Mann government for its failure to tackle environmental issues effectively.
