Residents of the Jammu plains experienced a welcome respite from the intense heatwave as a spell of rain brought cooler temperatures on Thursday. The region had been grappling with scorching heat for several days.
Weather Forecast and Advisory
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thunderstorms in parts of Jammu and Kashmir until June 6. An advisory has been issued, urging residents to stay vigilant about the changing weather conditions.
According to the MeT centre in Srinagar, from June 4 to 5, there is a likelihood of one or two spells of rain, thundershowers, hailstorms, and gusty winds at most places, with brief intense showers at a few locations. June 6 is expected to be generally cloudy with brief showers at scattered places. From June 7 to 12, the weather is likely to be hot and dry.
Precautionary Measures
The MeT has advised operators to suspend boating and Shikara riding during thunder and gusty winds, which could reach speeds of 40-50 kmph. The advisory also warns of possible brief intense showers at isolated places in Kashmir, which may trigger flash floods and mudslides.
The rain has brought much-needed relief to the plains, but authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise caution.
