A spotted deer was found dead on the roadside near Upar Bazar in Chirkunda, located within the Maithon region of Dhanbad, on Sunday morning. The incident came to light when early morning passersby noticed the carcass lying beside the road, with its stomach torn open.
Local Observations and Initial Speculations
According to local residents, several stray dogs were seen tearing at the body, suggesting the animal had been lying there for some time before discovery. Since deer are protected wild animals under Indian law, the presence of the carcass on a busy roadside sparked various speculations among people in the area regarding the cause of death.
Forest Department's Response and Investigation
Assistant Conservator of Forests A K Manjul stated that the deer most likely died in a road accident. The carcass was promptly taken to a nearby veterinary hospital, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. After completing all necessary formalities, the body was buried as per standard procedure.
Manjul further added that the forest department will investigate the matter to determine the deer's origin and the exact cause of its death. Authorities have assured that if any foul play is detected during the investigation, necessary steps will be taken to address it.
The discovery has raised concerns about wildlife safety in the region, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and protective measures for protected species.
