Residents of two villages in Karnataka's Kodagu district are on high alert after separate incidents of tiger attacks resulted in the death of domestic cattle. Forest department teams have swiftly responded, initiating operations to track and rescue the big cat involved.
Incidents in Badaga Banangala Village
The first attack occurred at Badaga Banangala village, which falls under the Thithimathi forest range. A villager named VC Chandra had left his cow to graze in a field situated close to his house. It was here that a tiger launched a fatal assault on the animal.
In a concerning development, the same tiger is believed to have targeted another cow in the vicinity, leaving it injured. Following the attacks, Thithimathi Range Forest Officer Gangadhar and Sub-Range Forest Officer Shashi promptly visited the location to carry out a thorough inspection of the spot.
Second Attack in Hathur Village
In a parallel and unrelated incident, a similar tragedy struck Hathur village in Ponnampet taluk. Here, a tiger attacked and killed a cow. Officials from the local forest department, including Ponnampet DRFO Divakar along with Rapid Response Team (RRT) staff, conducted a visit to assess the situation on the ground.
Forest Department's Rescue Mission
In response to the attacks in Badaga Banangala, the forest department has mobilized a dedicated operation. The primary objective is to safely rescue the big cat believed to be responsible for the incidents. Such operations are critical to prevent further conflict between wildlife and the local human population, ensuring the safety of both.
These back-to-back events highlight the ongoing challenges of human-wildlife coexistence in regions bordering forest areas. The swift action by the forest officials aims to mitigate immediate risks and address the concerns of the affected villagers.
