Drive Inaugurated by District Judges
The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department conducted a tree plantation drive in Narkanda, located in the Shimla district, with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and reinforcing the state's commitment to a greener future. During the event, approximately 80 saplings of Deodar and Khanor species were planted. The drive was officially inaugurated by Rampur Sessions Judge Madan Kumar and Senior Civil Judge and Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ajay Thakur, who marked the occasion by planting the first sapling.
Community Participation and Judicial Addresses
The plantation drive saw enthusiastic participation from students of local educational institutions, women's groups, youth organizations, and local residents. Addressing the gathering, Judge Madan Kumar emphasized that environmental protection is the need of the hour. He stressed that tree planting is not merely a symbolic gesture but a collective responsibility to safeguard the future of coming generations. Judge Kumar urged everyone to regularly care for the newly planted saplings and protect them until they mature into trees. He also encouraged students and residents to spread awareness about environmental conservation and help transform the campaign into a people's movement.
Judge Ajay Thakur added that a clean and healthy environment is not only a fundamental right of every citizen but also a shared responsibility. He noted that the goal of environmental protection can only be achieved by planting more trees and ensuring their proper care and maintenance. According to Judge Thakur, collective efforts are essential to make the drive a success.
Pledge for a Greener Himachal
At the conclusion of the event, all participants took a pledge to protect the environment and reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing and safeguarding the newly planted saplings. The Forest Department officials expressed satisfaction with the turnout and reiterated plans to organize similar drives in other parts of the district to expand green cover.
