Tragic Elephant Attack Claims Life in Keonjhar Forest
A devastating encounter with a wild elephant has left one young man dead and another seriously injured in the forests of Keonjhar district, Odisha. The incident occurred on Saturday at the Jarkani Beda cashew field within the Raidiha forest beat under the Patna range.
Victims Identified in the Fatal Incident
The deceased has been identified as Benudhar Naik, an 18-year-old resident of Tavasrua village in the Saharpada section. The injured individual is Mansingh Munda, a 45-year-old from Jamulaibeda village in the Patna section. Both were part of a group of villagers who had ventured into the Jarkanibeda forest to observe a lone-tusked elephant when the animal suddenly turned aggressive and attacked them.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Response
Forest officials swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the two victims and initially transporting them to the Karanjia sub-divisional hospital in neighboring Mayurbhanj district. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to Keonjhar district hospital for advanced medical care. Tragically, upon arrival, doctors pronounced Benudhar Naik dead. Mansingh Munda remains under medical supervision for his serious injuries.
Forest Department Issues Stern Warning
The forest department has intensified surveillance on the elephant involved in the attack and has issued repeated advisories to local communities. Patna range officer B B Sardar expressed concern over villagers disregarding safety warnings. "Despite several alerts, villagers are approaching the elephant and falling prey to it," Sardar stated, emphasizing the dangers of close encounters with wild animals.

Authorities are maintaining a close watch on the elephant's movements to prevent further incidents. The forest department has implemented the following measures:
