IMD Releases Comprehensive Seven-Day Weather Forecast for Uttarakhand
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has published an extensive seven-day district-wise weather forecast for Uttarakhand, outlining a significant transition from active to stable conditions. The prediction indicates widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, coupled with heavy snowfall in the initial days, before progressing into predominantly dry weather later in the week.
Detailed Day-by-Day Weather Predictions
According to the forecast made public by the IMD on April 8, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected across most districts of Uttarakhand on that day. Snowfall is anticipated at locations situated above 2800 meters above sea level, affecting all districts in the region.
By April 9, both the intensity and extent of rainfall are projected to decrease. Isolated occurrences of moderate to light rain, along with thunderstorms and snowfall above the 3000-meter mark, are likely in the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Other mountainous districts may experience very light to light rainfall at isolated spots, while plains areas are expected to remain dry.
Weather Activity to Diminish from April 10 Onwards
From April 10 through April 13, weather activity is forecasted to further diminish in intensity. Only very light to light rainfall with thunderstorms and snowfall above 3700 meters is predicted at isolated locations in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. All other areas are set to experience dry weather conditions.
Dry weather is expected to prevail across all districts of Uttarakhand up to April 14, marking the end of the active weather period.
Warnings for Thunderstorms and Hail Showers
The IMD has issued district-specific warnings for the early part of the forecast period. On April 8, thunderstorms with lightning, hail showers, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph may occur at isolated locations in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Similar thunderstorm activities with lightning and strong winds are also possible in other districts.
Temperature Trends and Expected Changes
Temperature trends in Uttarakhand reflect the influence of prevailing weather systems. Over the past 24 hours, temperatures have been significantly low in hilly areas and low to significantly low in plain areas.
As per IMD predictions, temperature levels are expected to drop by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in several places over the next 24 hours. Subsequently, in the following 3-4 days, a rise of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius is forecasted due to stabilizing weather conditions.
Potential Adverse Effects and Safety Concerns
Adverse effects from various weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds, are possible during April 8-9. Specifically, lightning poses a danger to life and property, while gusty winds may cause minor damage to temporary structures and vegetation.
In conclusion, the IMD's weather prediction clearly illustrates a transition from unstable to stable conditions over the upcoming week. The initial two days will feature rain and storms, gradually giving way to mostly dry weather across Uttarakhand.
