Nagpur witnessed a notable drop in maximum temperatures across the Vidarbha region following overnight rainfall, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has forecast additional showers, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next two days, providing temporary relief from recent heatwave conditions.
IMD Issues Color-Coded Alerts for Multiple Districts
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Wardha, Yavatmal, and Chandrapur, indicating a heightened risk of severe weather. Meanwhile, the rest of Vidarbha remains under a yellow alert for April 1 and 2, signaling caution for residents. These alerts highlight the potential for continued rain activity and associated hazards.
Temperature Drops Recorded Across Key Cities
Day temperatures decreased by 2°C to 6°C across various districts. Akola recorded a maximum of 37.3°C, down by 4°C, while Amravati saw 38.4°C, a fall of 3°C. Nagpur registered 36.6°C, nearly 4°C below the previous day, demonstrating a consistent cooling trend throughout central Vidarbha. This dip in temperatures is attributed to cloud cover and rain activity, which helped suppress daytime heat.
Rainfall Data Highlights Widespread Precipitation
The cooling was accompanied by widespread rainfall across the region. Brahmapuri recorded the highest precipitation at 37.6mm, followed by Chandrapur with 25mm. Other areas reported moderate to light showers:
- Gadchiroli: 17.2mm
- Akola: 7.7mm
- Bhandara: 5mm
Additional rainfall was noted in Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, contributing to the overall moisture levels.

Meteorologists explained that while the rain helped lower temperatures, humidity levels remained high, creating uncomfortable conditions, especially during morning hours. The IMD predicts light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (30-50kmph) at isolated places across Vidarbha over the next 48 hours. This weather activity is expected to bring intermittent spells of rain and lightning, offering temporary respite from the heat but maintaining humid conditions.
