Madurai: Virudhunagar district collector N O Sugaputhra initiated a tree planting drive under the Green Tamil Nadu Movement to mark World Environment Day at Keelakottaiyur village in the Watrap region on Friday.

The initiative was organised by the department of horticulture. Sugaputhra began the drive by planting saplings in a farmer's garden. He said trees played a critical role in environmental protection, reducing the impact of climate change, raising groundwater levels, and conserving natural resources and encouraged the public to plant and maintain as many saplings as possible.
District-Wide Activities
Similar planting activities were carried out across the district. The collector urged citizens to actively participate in such green initiatives to ensure a sustainable future.
