At least 10 people were injured, two of them seriously, in a road accident near Kalanaur in Punjab's Gurdaspur district on Tuesday. The incident occurred when a speeding car collided with a stationary truck on the Kalanaur-Gurdaspur road.
Accident Details
The car, carrying passengers from a wedding party, was heading towards Gurdaspur when the driver lost control and rammed into the parked truck. The impact was severe, leaving the car mangled and trapping several occupants inside.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped extricate the injured before the arrival of emergency services. Police and ambulance personnel reached the scene shortly after and transported the victims to the Civil Hospital in Gurdaspur.
Injuries and Treatment
According to hospital sources, two individuals sustained critical injuries and have been referred to a higher medical facility in Amritsar for specialized treatment. The remaining eight victims are reported to be in stable condition and are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.
The injured have been identified as residents of nearby villages. Their names have not been disclosed pending family notification.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the car was speeding and the driver may have dozed off at the wheel. Authorities are also checking if the truck was parked without proper warning signals, which could have contributed to the collision.
This incident highlights the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better road safety measures in the region. Accidents on this stretch have been a recurring concern for local residents.
