Ranchi: In a significant breakthrough, the Khunti police apprehended an active member of the banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) during an operation under the Karra police station limits, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Arrest Details
Khunti Superintendent of Police Rishabha Garg stated that Rajesh Mahto was arrested on Tuesday near an under-construction bus stand on the Khunti-Tirala road. Acting on a specific tip-off, police intercepted Mahto as he was allegedly heading towards Khunti for some work.
Seized Items
During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered a country-made pistol, two cartridges, two PLFI pamphlets, and three mobile phones from his possession. Further investigations led to the recovery of additional arms and ammunition from Katamkuku village, based on information provided by the arrested extremist.
Legal Background
According to police, Mahto, also referred to as Yadav in official statements, is an accused in a case currently being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The case was originally registered at the Bedo police station in Ranchi. Officials added that five more cases are registered against him in Khunti district, highlighting his alleged involvement in extremist activities in the region.
