Man dies, three injured in car-pickup van collision

A tragic accident on the Sankari-Namakkal National Highway near Narappansavadi bus stop in Salem district on Friday claimed the life of a man and left three members of his family seriously injured. The deceased has been identified as M Ravi, 56, a resident of Varnapuram in Erode district.

Details of the Incident

According to police, Ravi was driving the car with his wife Muthulakshmi (49), son Sabari (27), and daughter-in-law Arulmozhi (26) to Thirumanancheri temple in Mayiladuthurai district. The collision occurred with a pickup van, resulting in fatal injuries for Ravi. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Sankagiri Government Hospital. The injured family members were later shifted to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Local Concerns

Residents of the area have raised concerns over ongoing GAIL gas pipeline work along the highway, which they claim has narrowed the road to a single lane, increasing the risk of accidents. M Sundar Kumar, a local resident, stated, "This had already caused two fatal accidents. This is the third accident." Villagers are demanding that GAIL and highway authorities expedite the pipeline work and restore two-way traffic to prevent further mishaps.
