KRISHNAGIRI: A schoolboy drowned while swimming in a farm well near Kelamangalam in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as M Prasad, 12, of Koottur village, a Class VII student at a panchayat union middle school in Chettipalli.
On Wednesday evening, Prasad was returning from school with three friends. According to an officer at the Kelamangalam police station, the boys decided to swim in a farm well. While swimming, Prasad entered a deeper section and drowned. Shaken by the incident, the other boys returned home without informing anyone.
When Prasad did not return by late evening, his worried parents began searching for him throughout the village. K Ramesh, a relative, said their fears grew when they noticed Prasad's footwear lying near the well. A fire and rescue services team from Denkanikottai arrived at the scene and retrieved Prasad's body around 10pm on Wednesday. The body was sent to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The Kelamangalam police have registered a case.
