The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against nine individuals, including two Pakistan nationals, in connection with the grenade attack on a police station in Sirsa, Haryana, that occurred in 2022. The chargesheet was submitted before a special NIA court in Panchkula on Tuesday.

Details of the Chargesheet

The accused have been identified as follows: Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi, a resident of Sirsa; Jaswinder Singh, alias Jassi, from Sirsa; and two Pakistan nationals, identified as Abu Bakr and Mohammad Salim. The other five accused are Indian nationals from various states. They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

Nature of the Attack

According to the NIA, the attack was carried out on the night of December 2, 2022, when two assailants on a motorcycle hurled a grenade at the Sirsa police station. The grenade exploded, causing injuries to three police personnel and damaging property. The assailants fled the scene after the attack.

The investigation revealed that the attack was orchestrated by a Pakistan-based terrorist group, with the aim of spreading terror and destabilizing peace in the region. The NIA has alleged that the two Pakistan nationals were involved in planning and providing logistical support for the attack.

Role of the Accused

The chargesheet details the roles of each accused. Gurpreet Singh and Jaswinder Singh are accused of being the masterminds behind the attack, while the Pakistan nationals are alleged to have provided funding and explosives. The other accused are charged with harboring the attackers, providing shelter, and facilitating the escape of the assailants.

Legal Proceedings

The NIA has sought the prosecution of all nine accused, and the court has taken cognizance of the chargesheet. The next hearing is scheduled for next month. The agency has also announced that it is continuing its investigation to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the conspiracy.

This case highlights the ongoing threat of cross-border terrorism and the efforts of Indian security agencies to combat such activities. The NIA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for such heinous acts are brought to justice.
