Tarn Taran youth drowns in Slovakia lake, body to arrive in 3 days

Satinder Pal Singh (26), a resident of Barwala village near Patti in Tarn Taran district, drowned in a lake in Slovakia on June 27, according to family and local officials. The incident occurred when he and three or four other youths went to bathe in the lake, and two of them entered deep water and drowned.

Victim was only son of widowed mother

Amarjit Singh, the village sarpanch and a close relative of the victim’s family, said Satinder was the only son of his parents. His father had already passed away, leaving behind his mother as the sole surviving parent. The family is now in deep grief over the loss.

Satinder had gone abroad for employment two years ago. He returned to the village on leave about three months ago and went back to Slovakia a month ago to resume work. He was working there to support his family financially.

Two youths drowned; one died on the spot

According to Amarjit Singh, the incident occurred on June 27 when the group went to bathe in a lake. Two of them drowned after venturing into deep water. The other youth, also from Punjab, died on the spot. Satinder Pal Singh was pulled out of the water unconscious and later died despite efforts to revive him.

Family members said the body of Satinder Pal Singh is expected to reach the village within the next three days. Arrangements are being made for the last rites.

Community in shock over overseas tragedy

The death has sent shockwaves through Barwala village and the surrounding area. Many young men from Punjab travel abroad for work, and such tragedies highlight the risks faced by overseas workers. The sarpanch expressed condolences to the family and called for better safety awareness among migrant workers.

The incident has also prompted discussions on the need for safety measures when engaging in recreational activities in unfamiliar environments. The local administration has been informed, and necessary formalities for repatriation of the body are being completed.
