Thane Court Grants Transit Remand to ISI-Linked Man

A Thane court on Wednesday granted transit remand until June 5 to 26-year-old Huzaifa Farooque Ahmed Hashmi, who was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in a joint operation with the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The arrest is linked to his alleged connections with a module involving Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Mumbai underworld.

Investigation Details

Sources revealed that investigators suspect Hashmi had been in contact over the past month with Yawar Khan, an alleged Pakistan-based operative. This claim is a key part of the ongoing probe into the module's activities.

Court Proceedings

During the hearing, the magistrate asked Hashmi whether he was aware of the reasons for his arrest. He responded in the affirmative. The Delhi Police Special Cell informed the court that the accused needed to be taken to Delhi for further investigation and to be produced before the competent court at Patiala House Courts.

Remand Order

Judicial Magistrate First Class S N Kannurkar directed the investigating officer to produce Hashmi before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi, or the competent jurisdictional court within the stipulated period. The court also ordered that all constitutional and statutory safeguards be ensured during transit and custody.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Indian law enforcement agencies to dismantle networks with alleged foreign links.
