TMC Leader Kalyan Banerjee Attacked Near Police Station

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday was allegedly attacked near Chanditala Police Station in West Bengal's Hooghly district when he arrived to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence in the area.

The incident comes a day after TMC national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by a mob during a visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district. Abhishek had gone to meet families affected by post-poll violence when stones, eggs and shoes were allegedly hurled at him by protesters.

Following the attack, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of orchestrating the violence and alleged that hospitals and doctors were being pressured over Abhishek Banerjee's treatment. Several opposition leaders, including Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, condemned the incident, while the BJP denied any involvement and appealed for peace.
