Incident overview
A 14-year-old girl from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, drowned in Manali on Sunday afternoon after being swept away by the strong current of the Manalsu nullah near Club House. Her body was recovered from the Beas river near the Volvo Bus Stand after an extensive search operation, according to Manali DSP KD Sharma.
Details of the accident
The teenager was visiting Manali with her family. She reportedly slipped and was carried away by the forceful flow of the nullah. The police were alerted and launched a search that lasted several hours. The body was eventually fished out of the Beas river and sent to Manali Hospital for post-mortem, after which it was handed over to the grieving family.
Authorities urge caution
In the wake of the tragic incident, the local administration issued a warning to tourists, urging them to exercise extreme caution near rivers, streams, and waterfalls. During the monsoon season, water levels in nullahs can rise suddenly and without warning, posing a serious risk to visitors.
DSP KD Sharma stated, "The girl slipped and was swept away by the strong current. We recovered her body after hours of search. We appeal to all tourists to stay away from water bodies and follow safety guidelines."
Safety recommendations for tourists
Tourists are advised to avoid venturing into or near fast-flowing water, especially during monsoon. Parents should closely supervise children near any water body. The administration has also increased patrolling in accident-prone areas and installed warning signs at key spots.
