Three US Service Members Killed in Operation Epic Fury Against Iran

Three United States military service members have been killed in action, with several others injured, during the execution of Operation Epic Fury, a major US-led offensive against Iran. US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed the casualties in a statement released on March 1.

Casualty Details and Ongoing Operations

"As of 9:30 am ET, March 1, three U.S. service members have been killed in action and five are seriously wounded as part of Operation Epic Fury," stated Centcom. The command further noted that "several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty." It emphasized that major combat operations continue and the response effort remains ongoing.

The identities of the deceased service members have not been disclosed. Centcom explained this decision, saying, "The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified."

Scope and Objectives of Operation Epic Fury

Operation Epic Fury is a large-scale military offensive authorized under President Donald Trump. Conducted in the early hours of Sunday in Tehran, the operation's primary objective was a decapitation strike aimed at eliminating Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and key members of the country's political leadership.

Israeli forces, under the command of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, participated in the coordinated assault, which was codenamed Operation Lion’s Roar by Israel. The strikes targeted Tehran's political and administrative districts in broad daylight, focusing on:

  • The offices of the Supreme Leader
  • The presidential complex
  • The Assembly of Experts

Reported Impact and Regional Fallout

According to reports from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the offensive resulted in significant casualties beyond the political leadership. The strike reportedly killed Ayatollah Khamenei's daughter and grandchild, along with senior military officials. It also caused substantial civilian casualties, including at a girls' school in southern Iran.

The operation has triggered broader regional tensions. Iran has launched retaliatory strikes, with explosions reported in Gulf cities including Dubai, Doha, and Manama, targeting airports and other infrastructure. The United Arab Emirates has publicly called on Iran to "go back to your senses" following these attacks on Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Kuwait.

Israeli officials have reported eight fatalities from Iran's missile attacks in response to Operation Epic Fury, indicating the escalating nature of the conflict. The situation remains highly volatile as military engagements continue across the region.
