Acting President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed on Friday that the death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 589, with 2,980 people injured, according to state broadcaster VTV as reported by CNN.

Rescue Efforts Continue During Critical Window

Search and rescue teams are working around the clock during the crucial 72-hour "golden window" to find survivors trapped under rubble. La Guaira Worst Affected

According to VTV, search and rescue operations are concentrated in the state of La Guaira, which appears to be the most heavily impacted area following the back-to-back earthquakes. The government has established a stockpile center at the foreign ministry in Caracas, providing food, water, and medicines for those in need.

Hundreds of Venezuelan citizens have volunteered to deliver essential supplies, including water, food, medicines, and other necessities, to affected communities in Caraballeda and Vargas.

India Launches 'Operation Amistad'

India has initiated 'Operation Amistad' to support earthquake-hit Venezuela. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Friday that two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft departed for Venezuela carrying a field hospital unit and over 35 tonnes of relief supplies.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, "Operation Amistad underway! Two @IAF_MCC C17S took off today for Venezuela with urgent assistance to support their post-earthquake relief efforts." The relief mission includes an Indian Army Field Hospital Unit, medicines, medical equipment, and two BHISHM Cubes designed for rapid emergency medical support in disaster situations.

International humanitarian efforts continue as Venezuela grapples with the aftermath of the deadly earthquakes.
