A brief spell of rain on Saturday, lasting barely 15 minutes, exposed the poor condition of a temporary road stretch connecting an under-construction railway overbridge (ROB) and the Gambhir river bridge near Kishanganj. This development has raised serious safety concerns for thousands of daily commuters on the busy Mhow-Indore route.
Road Conditions After Rainfall
The 150-metre stretch became slippery and uneven after the rainfall, causing two-wheeler riders to skid and making movement difficult even for four-wheelers. Residents fear the situation will worsen once the monsoon arrives. The road, part of the old Agra-Bombay highway, serves as a crucial link between Mhow and Indore and witnesses heavy traffic, including army and VIP vehicles.
Residents Express Concerns
A resident of Gujarkheda, Akash Rathore, who uses the route daily, said hundreds of families living in colonies along Indore Road depend on the stretch for commuting to Mhow. "People are worried about how they will navigate this road in the monsoon. Traffic jams are likely to increase, especially when tourist movement towards Mhow's forest and picnic spots rises during the rainy season," he said.
Police and Authorities Respond
Mhow traffic in-charge SI Vinod Yadav said police have written to the bridge construction agency regarding the deteriorating condition of the road. "Looking at the condition after the first rainfall, we have asked the authorities to make the stretch safe and hassle-free for commuters. They have assured us that repair work will be completed within a week," he told TOI. Yadav also said that based on the current pace of work, completion of the railway overbridge project appears unlikely within this year.
