Driver's Quiet Request Reveals Struggle
As Katial settled into the cab, the driver politely asked if he could be booked for the return trip, explaining that aggregator deductions were substantial and every rupee saved helped arrange an oxygen cylinder for his mother battling cancer. His words carried no complaint or self-pity, only quiet fortitude.
During the drive, Katial noticed the driver's remarkable control over the vehicle. Only then did the driver reveal that he drove using prosthetic legs.
Accident That Changed Everything
Years earlier, while rushing medicines to the hospital where his wife had been admitted for childbirth, he was knocked down by a speeding car. Before he could recover, a school bus ran over his legs. A good Samaritan took him to a hospital. That very day, he became the father of twin daughters.
Instead of welcoming the birth of the girls, some relatives branded them inauspicious, blaming them for his tragedy. The driver responded, “Children are blessings, never burdens.”
Children's Academic Success
When asked about his family, the driver's eyes shone with quiet pride. His elder daughter, adopted by his childless brother, is preparing for the Civil Services exam.
