Leopard Attacks Dog at IIT-Bombay, No Humans Hurt

Mumbai: An adult leopard was seen on CCTV footage attacking a dog inside the IIT-Bombay campus in Powai during the early hours of Friday.

Incident Details

A resident lecturer reported that the leopard entered a staff hostel around 2:30 am and attacked a local community dog. The leopard then dragged the dog into the bushes. No humans were injured in the incident.

Expert Comments

Pawan Sharma, honorary wildlife warden and founder of RAWW NGO, stated: "We will have to get further details about this leopard sighting from the campus security. Leopards are often sighted at the Powai campus over the years because the Sanjay Gandhi National Park is quite close by."

Sharma added that they are in regular contact with the IIT-B administration to advise on precautions during human-wildlife encounters.

Previous Sightings

Earlier this year, a leopard was also seen at Raheja Heights complex in Dindoshi and at Wagle industrial estate in Thane. Leopards frequently venture into human settlements late at night to hunt for food.
