PM Modi’s Temple Visit and Diaspora Interaction
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Arul Mihu Navashakti Vinayakar Temple in Victoria, Seychelles, on June 29, 2026, during his three-day official visit. He offered prayers for peace and global prosperity. At the temple, he interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their contributions and emphasizing the strong cultural and historical ties between India and Seychelles.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Seychelles National Day
PM Modi attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles' National Day, where Indian military contingents participated. The Indian Army's Assam Regiment, along with INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak, marched in the parade. The Army contingent performed the regimental song 'Badlu Ram Ka Badan'. PM Modi expressed gratitude to President Patrick Herminie and shared images of the event.
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation
The Indian Navy highlighted that the port call by INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak, along with a marching contingent and naval band, represents the 'Bridges of Friendship' and maritime cooperation between the two nations. This presence underscores India's strategic footprint in the Indian Ocean region.
High-Level Bilateral Meetings
On the sidelines, PM Modi met with Leader of the Opposition Bernard Georges and Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam. With Georges, he reviewed the India-Seychelles partnership and appreciated broad-based political consensus. With Ramgoolam, discussions focused on the Enhanced Strategic Partnership, including infrastructure projects under the Special Economic Package, capacity building, maritime defense, green energy, and cyber security.
Address to the National Assembly
Earlier, PM Modi addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles, expressing gratitude for the hospitality and emphasizing institutional partnership rooted in democratic values. He interacted directly with lawmakers, reinforcing long-term bilateral cooperation.
