McGovern, who served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at the church, had walked nearly a mile through frigid, snowy conditions to ensure walkways were clear for parishioners to safely attend Sunday Mass. His friend Kevin Troy revealed that McGovern had spoken with the priest and volunteered to shovel the sidewalks before services began.
Tragically, moments later, before he could even begin the work, McGovern collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive. Medical reports indicated he suffered a heart attack during the incident.
