Trump announces Reflecting Pool restored after sabotage
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, has been fully restored and is operating again after suffering significant damage. In a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the pool has been in full operation for the past two days and looks beautiful. He added that after July 4, authorities will drain the water to repair the expensive waterproof lining, which was cut with sharp knives, including a 350-foot gash along the right side.
President blames 'Vandals and Radical Left SCUM'
Trump blamed "Vandals and Radical Left SCUM" for the destruction, accusing them of hating the country. He warned that security is watching nearly 70 other monuments, statues, and fountains that have been renovated across Washington, DC, and that anyone attacking them faces up to 10 years in prison. The statement was signed by the president himself.
Security heightened ahead of 250th independence anniversary
The developments come as US law enforcement prepares for a demanding period, with the nation set to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence amid political tensions. Recent gunfire incidents near the White House have raised security concerns. National Guard troops have been deployed, and security barriers erected to prevent further breaches.
Maintenance and repair work underway
Maintenance teams are currently working to restore the base of the pool and remove algae using hydrogen peroxide and specialized vacuums. Trump said the repairs will be completed quickly, and the pool will look as good as it was two weeks ago.
Lawmakers demand explanations for security lapses
Meanwhile, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are seeking detailed explanations about the security oversights that allowed the sabotage to occur. Trump and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt alleged that the suspects have connections to the Democratic Party, though no evidence was provided to support this claim.
