The Founders' Journey

Restaurant Chillika was founded by two Odias in the UK: Subhakanta Das and Partha Sarathi Panda. Subhakanta Das, an IT professional who moved to the UK over two decades ago, remained connected to his homeland and its culinary traditions. What started as cooking for family and community events grew as his authentic recipes evoked memories of home for many Odias. Partha Sarathi Panda, a hospitality and business student, built a successful career with international brands like McDonald's and KFC and later became an entrepreneur in recruitment. United by their roots and passion for food, they launched Chillika to showcase Odisha's culinary heritage through authentic Odia and Indian street food.

A Home Away From Home

Today, Chillika is known as a home away from home for thousands of Odias in the UK. It has become a place of belonging where memories resurface, friendships flourish, and the warmth of Odisha is felt miles away. Whether for students arriving in Britain, visitors from India, or professionals, Chillika is a preferred meeting point, affectionately called "Odisha's Living Room in London."

Preserving Odia Flavours

The restaurant is committed to preserving and promoting authentic Odia cuisine, with dishes like Dahi Bara Aloo Dum, a beloved street food that revives memories of Cuttack. It also offers a variety of Indian street food appealing to both the diaspora and international diners.

Distinguished Visitors

Chillika has become a must-visit destination for business leaders, community figures, Odia film personalities, Bollywood playback singers, entrepreneurs, and social leaders. Every guest is welcomed with the warmth and hospitality Odisha is known for.

Hosting India's Future Cricket Stars

In 2025, Chillika hosted members of the India Under-19 Cricket Team, led by rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi, during their UK visit. This reflected the founders' commitment to supporting Indian talent abroad.

Recognition and Success

The recent recognition by Restaurant Guru and the Top 10 ranking in Bexleyheath demonstrate the restaurant's dedication, hard work, and commitment to quality. Chillika now stands as a symbol of Odisha's growing presence in the UK.

Strategic Partnership with Capt Arun Kar (Retd)

In June 2025, Capt Arun Kar (Retd), a British entrepreneur, investor, military veteran, and CEO of Xpertnest, joined Chillika as a strategic partner. Born in Odisha and globally recognized for his achievements in entrepreneurship, technology, and sustainable development, he brings experience in business growth and international expansion. His decision was inspired by a belief that Odisha's culture, cuisine, and entrepreneurial spirit deserve greater global recognition. Working with founders Subhakanta Das and Partha Sarathi Panda, Capt Arun Kar aims to support long-term growth and brand expansion while preserving the authenticity and cultural values that make Chillika unique.
