Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday outlined India's vision for Artificial Intelligence at the 10th edition of the VivaTech Summit in Paris, emphasizing that democratization of AI is crucial to ensure its benefits reach everyone. He rolled out the red carpet for global tech companies, stating that his government is easing regulations and expanding the ease of doing business in India.
India Pavilion Showcases Startup Innovation
PM Modi invited attendees to visit the India pavilion, which displays the prowess of India's startup ecosystem. The pavilion features cutting-edge innovations, including the world's first 3D printed rocket engine, advanced genetic engineering therapies, and AI solutions for detecting cancers and other critical diseases. He highlighted that the pavilion reflects India's immense energy and technological advancements.
AI for All: Inclusivity at the Core
Addressing the summit, PM Modi stated that for India, AI means 'all-inclusive,' underscoring the principle of inclusivity that is central to his government's approach. He urged global leaders and tech companies to take the lead and work with India to deliver benefits for all. Using the example of Sarlaben, a voice-first AI assistant launched by Amul, PM Modi showcased how AI is empowering women dairy farmers in livestock management, from nutrition to health.
India's Achievements in Space and Digital Technology
The Prime Minister also highlighted India's achievements in space technology, noting that India was the first country to land near the south pole of the moon. On digital technology, he emphasized that numerous lives are being transformed through initiatives like the SVAMITVA scheme and the PM GatiShakti initiative. He stated that India is a world leader in digital payments, with half of the world's digital payment transactions happening through UPI. Additionally, DigiLocker has enabled 700 million people to access authentic documents without physical copies.
Rapid Transformation Powered by Technology
PM Modi remarked that over the last decade, India has undergone a rapid transformation powered by technology. From creating the world's largest digital identity system to the world's largest digital payment platforms, technology is being used at a massive scale for financial inclusion, education, telemedicine, and agriculture. He noted that UPI is now accepted in France, including at the Eiffel Tower and Paris airport.
During his visit to France, PM Modi participated in the G7 Summit and held talks with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump. Earlier on Thursday, he met leading business executives in Paris to discuss investment opportunities and expansion plans in India. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across sectors such as shipping, logistics, railways, construction, and artificial intelligence, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
