Agra's New Civil Air Terminal Progresses Toward July Completion Deadline

District Magistrate Aravind Bangari conducted a thorough inspection of the upcoming civil air terminal in Agra on Thursday, directing officials to ensure the project is finalized by July this year. The construction, which began after the foundation stone was laid in October 2024, is now in its concluding phases, promising to significantly enhance the city's air connectivity upon becoming operational.

Inspection Highlights and Official Directives

During his site visit, DM Bangari meticulously reviewed the pace of work and issued clear instructions to prioritize essential amenities. He emphasized the need for proper drinking water facilities, efficient drainage systems, and effective water disposal within the terminal premises. Bangari stressed maintaining high construction quality while strictly adhering to deadlines, underscoring the terminal's role in boosting Agra's aviation infrastructure and economic prospects.

Anoop Chandra Srivastava, the General Manager (Engineering) and Project In-Charge, confirmed that construction is advancing as planned. "The work is in its final stages and will be completed within the stipulated timeline," he stated, reflecting confidence in meeting the July target.

State-of-the-Art Features and Sustainable Design

The new terminal is designed as a modern, passenger-friendly facility with a capacity to handle 1,400 travelers. Key features include:

  • A fully air-conditioned terminal building with 19 check-in counters.
  • Digi Yatra and self-check-in facilities for seamless passenger processing.
  • A multi-level car parking area to accommodate increased vehicular traffic.
  • An apron with parking space for nine aircraft, enabling efficient flight operations.
  • Direct boarding from the terminal to aircraft, streamlining passenger movement.

In line with environmental sustainability, the terminal is being developed as a green building. It will incorporate a 500 kW solar power plant for renewable energy generation and install 33 electric vehicle charging points to promote sustainable mobility. These initiatives highlight a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint while enhancing operational efficiency.

Impact on Agra's Connectivity and Development

Once operational, the terminal is expected to transform Agra's air travel landscape by improving connectivity and supporting tourism and business activities. The project aligns with broader infrastructure goals, positioning Agra as a key aviation hub in the region. With the final stages of construction underway, stakeholders are optimistic about a timely inauguration, marking a significant milestone in the city's development trajectory.
