Bommai Calls Cross-Voting in Council Polls Regrettable, Alleges Congress Corruption
Bommai Slams Cross-Voting, Alleges Congress Corruption

Haveri: MP and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday described cross-voting in the legislative council elections as “highly disturbing and regrettable,” accusing the Congress of engaging in widespread political corruption through substantial financial outlays.

Speaking at a press conference in Haveri, Bommai acknowledged that some legislators had succumbed to financial temptations. He stated that appropriate action would be taken once the party-appointed committee submits its report. The leader of the opposition and the state party president have already announced an inquiry, with findings to be forwarded to the party high command. “The report will be obtained within a week, and action will be taken against those found responsible,” he added.

He alleged that the Congress government, led by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, operates with the arrogance of money, reiterating his charge that this constitutes political corruption involving vast sums. Some MLAs, he said, were swayed by monetary inducements, a situation that should never have arisen.

Responding to a query about access issues at Haveri railway station, Bommai explained that an entry problem exists because part of the land belongs to private individuals. The matter is sub judice, and despite two or three attempts at resolution through discussions, no solution has emerged. He pledged further efforts in the coming days.

Regarding the Bedti-Varada project, Bommai noted that the state government is preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and that they would resume their agitation once it is completed.
