Gujarat Government Allocates Major Funding to Develop Dholera SIR as a Global Industrial Hub
In a significant move to bolster industrial growth, the Gujarat government has earmarked substantial funding for the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), aiming to position it as a premier global hub for future industries. Finance Minister Kanu Desai announced these allocations during the state budget presentation on Wednesday, highlighting the state's commitment to advancing key sectors.
Budget Allocations for Dholera SIR
The budget includes specific provisions designed to accelerate Dholera's emergence as a leading industrial centre. Pathik Patwari, chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Gujarat chapter, emphasized the impact of these allocations. He noted, "There is a provision of Rs 1,100 crore for the Gujarat Semiconductor Policy and also assistance of Rs 150 crore under the Gujarat Electronics Policy. An allocation of Rs 610 crore for developing trunk infrastructure at Dholera SIR will significantly help Dholera become an industrial hub."
Infrastructure Development and Key Projects
Minister Desai detailed that Phase 1 of the Logistics and Trunk Infrastructure Project is currently underway at Dholera SIR. This phase encompasses a range of critical developments, including:
- Construction of the Dholera airport
- Modernization of road networks
- Water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Underground cabling for power distribution
- Smart ICT infrastructure
Additionally, the budget provides Rs 300 crore for delivering 100 MLD pipeline water from Bhaskarpura village lake in Lakhtar taluka of Surendranagar district to Dholera SIR. A further Rs 650 crore has been allocated for a new 100 MLD bulk pipeline network to ensure uninterrupted water supply. An extra Rs 50 crore is designated for enhancing infrastructure facilities within Dholera SIR.
Emerging Hubs and Future Prospects
Dholera and Sanand are rapidly emerging as semiconductor hubs, with Dholera also poised to attract investments in aircraft manufacturing and data centres. These strategic initiatives are expected to drive economic growth and create numerous job opportunities in the region.
Industry representatives have welcomed the budget provisions, stating that they could fast-track Dholera's development into a robust industrial centre. The comprehensive funding approach underscores Gujarat's proactive stance in fostering innovation and industrial expansion.
