Hisense Inaugurates First Indian Manufacturing Facility in Andhra Pradesh
Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances leader Hisense has officially opened its inaugural manufacturing plant in India, located at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. This strategic move marks a significant expansion of the company's global production footprint and underscores its commitment to the Indian market.
A Major Investment in Local Manufacturing
The sprawling facility, which covers an impressive 10 acres, has been established by Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL). EMTPL operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited, a key partner in the Hisense–Epack Durable joint venture. The plant is situated within Epack Durable's dedicated industrial park, adjacent to its existing original design manufacturer (ODM) manufacturing unit.
The total investment for this state-of-the-art plant exceeds $30 million, approximately Rs 272 crore. Currently, pilot production activities are actively underway at the site. The initial installed capacity is set at 7.5 lakh room air conditioners annually, which forms the core focus of the project's first phase. Upon achieving full operational status, this facility will be the exclusive production hub for all Hisense room air conditioners sold in India, accounting for 100% of the brand's domestic output in this category.
Phased Expansion and Job Creation
Hisense has outlined a comprehensive multi-phase expansion plan for the new plant. The second phase, scheduled for initiation in the second quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year, will introduce manufacturing lines for both top-load and front-load washing machines. This will be followed by the third phase in the subsequent quarter, which will commence production of LED televisions.
The facility is already a significant contributor to local employment, currently providing jobs for approximately 500 individuals. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the company anticipates this number to grow substantially, supporting nearly 1,500 jobs in total. Active hiring is ongoing across various departments, including supply chain management, finance, administration, technical roles, and skilled manufacturing positions.
Aligning with National Initiatives and Strategic Goals
This project is a cornerstone of Hisense's enhanced localization strategy and is designed to align seamlessly with the Indian government's flagship 'Make in India' initiative. By establishing local manufacturing, Hisense aims to deepen its roots in one of the world's fastest-growing consumer markets.
Pankaj Rana, CEO of Hisense India, emphasized the strategic benefits, stating that the new plant will empower the company with greater control over product quality, cost optimization, and supply chain efficiency. Furthermore, it will enable advanced product customization specifically tailored to meet the unique preferences and requirements of Indian consumers.
Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO of Epack Durable, highlighted the facility's role in elevating India's manufacturing stature. He noted that the plant is built to reflect global manufacturing standards and is poised to significantly bolster India's capabilities in export-oriented production, contributing to the nation's economic growth.
