Mahindra & Mahindra Unveils Massive ₹15,000 Crore Investment for Nagpur Mega-Plant
In a landmark move to significantly expand its manufacturing capabilities, automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra has officially declared plans to establish its largest-ever integrated production hub in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. The company is committing a colossal investment of ₹15,000 crore over the next ten years to bring this ambitious project to fruition.
A State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Powerhouse
The new facility, set to be developed across a sprawling 1,500-acre site in the Vidarbha region, will be complemented by an additional 150-acre supplier park located in Sambhajinagar. This integrated complex is designed to achieve an annual production capacity exceeding five lakh vehicles and one lakh tractors, solidifying its status as Mahindra's most substantial manufacturing footprint within India.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra's Auto and Farm Sector, described the initiative as "a bold step forward" for the organization. He emphasized that the plant is "designed to support our next generation of vehicles and tractors" by merging advanced manufacturing techniques with large-scale production efficiency.
Strategic Announcement and Government Collaboration
The announcement was made during the "Advantage Vidarbha" summit held in Nagpur, where a memorandum of understanding was formally signed between the Maharashtra government and Mahindra & Mahindra. This partnership underscores the project's alignment with regional development goals.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the investment, calling it a "strong endorsement of the state's robust industrial ecosystem." He confirmed that the integrated factory will manufacture electric vehicles, next-generation cars, and tractors, projecting significant job creation and accelerated growth for the Vidarbha region.
Enhancing Supply Chain and Technological Capabilities
The accompanying 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar is a critical component of the strategy. It will produce components not only for the new Nagpur plant but also for Mahindra's existing facilities in Chakan and Nashik. This setup aims to foster tighter collaboration with partners and increase domestic parts production, supporting the "Make in India" campaign.
Furthermore, the Nagpur site will be equipped to handle next-generation vehicle designs, capable of producing conventional gasoline and diesel engines, electric cars, and other emerging technologies. To bolster these efforts, the company is also acquiring additional land in the Igatpuri-Nashik zone to enhance motor manufacturing and facilitate advanced technology initiatives.
Logistical Advantages and Economic Impact
The Vidarbha region was selected for its excellent logistical connectivity. The plant's strategic location offers convenient access to the Samruddhi Expressway and major railway routes, simplifying the distribution of finished units to both domestic and international markets.
Jejurikar highlighted that this project will enable the company to "deliver world-class products" while leveraging experienced personnel and strong support from the state government. The investment is poised to transform the local industrial landscape, driving economic development and positioning Maharashtra as a key hub for automotive innovation and production.
