Mahindra Group Unveils Massive Rs 15,000 Crore Investment for Nagpur Mega-Plant
The Mahindra Group has made a landmark announcement, revealing plans to establish its largest integrated manufacturing facility for automobiles and tractors in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This ambitious project involves a substantial investment of Rs 15,000 crore over the next decade, underscoring the company's commitment to expanding its industrial footprint in India.
Strategic Expansion with Production Set for 2028
Scheduled to commence production in 2028, the new facility is poised to become a cornerstone of Mahindra's long-term manufacturing and growth strategy. Spanning an impressive 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region, this plant will represent Mahindra's most extensive integrated manufacturing presence in the country once fully operational.
Impressive Production Capacity and Technological Advancements
According to company statements, the Nagpur facility will boast an annual production capacity exceeding 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors. It is designed to support Mahindra Auto's next-generation vehicle platforms, including the innovative NU_IQ architecture. The plant will be versatile, capable of manufacturing vehicles across multiple powertrains such as petrol, diesel, electric vehicles, and future technologies, catering to both domestic and international markets.
Supplier Park Development and Strategic Location Benefits
In a complementary move, Mahindra will develop a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. This hub will manufacture components not only for the upcoming Nagpur plant but also for existing facilities in Chakan and Nashik. The Vidarbha region was selected for its strategic advantages, which include robust road connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway, reliable rail links, and easy access to key domestic and export markets. Mahindra believes these factors, combined with a rapidly developing industrial ecosystem, will enhance manufacturing and distribution efficiency.
Land Acquisition and Broader Economic Impact
With these initiatives, Mahindra plans to acquire over 2,000 acres of land across three locations in Maharashtra. The combined investment of Rs 15,000 crore over 10 years marks one of the group's largest commitments to the state, significantly strengthening its manufacturing presence in India and contributing to regional economic growth.
