Mahindra Group Unveils Massive Rs 15,000 Crore Manufacturing Hub in Nagpur
In a landmark announcement that promises to reshape the industrial landscape of Maharashtra, the Mahindra Group has revealed ambitious plans to establish its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Nagpur. The conglomerate has committed a staggering investment of Rs 15,000 crore to this mega-project, with production at the proposed plant slated to begin in 2028.
Strategic Announcement at Advantage Vidarbha Summit
The significant declaration was made during the Advantage Vidarbha event, a three-day flagship investment summit designed to position the Vidarbha region as an emerging industrial growth hub. This proposed facility represents a major expansion of Mahindra's manufacturing footprint and is poised to play a pivotal role in the group's long-term growth strategy within the automotive and farm equipment sectors.
Unprecedented Scale and Capacity
According to detailed company statements, the state-of-the-art manufacturing complex will be developed across a vast 1,500-acre site in Vidarbha. This will be complemented by an additional 150-acre supplier park located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Once fully operational, the Nagpur plant is projected to achieve an annual production capacity exceeding 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, cementing its status as Mahindra's largest integrated manufacturing facility in India.
Logistical Advantages and Supply Chain Integration
Company officials emphasized the strategic advantages of the Nagpur location, which include superior road connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway, robust rail links, and direct access to key domestic and international export markets. The dedicated supplier park in Sambhajinagar is expected to significantly strengthen the manufacturing value chain by fostering closer collaboration with partners, enhancing logistics efficiency, and boosting localization efforts. Components produced at this park will supply the new Nagpur facility as well as Mahindra's existing manufacturing plants in Chakan and Nashik.
Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities and Future Technologies
The Nagpur automotive plant is engineered to support Mahindra Auto's next-generation platforms, including the innovative NU-IQ architecture. It will possess the flexibility to manufacture vehicles across multiple powertrain technologies, encompassing internal combustion engines, electric vehicles, and future mobility solutions. Designed to serve both domestic and global markets, the facility will incorporate advanced automation and sophisticated digital manufacturing systems, reflecting the company's unwavering commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.
Strengthening Leadership in Farm Equipment
The integrated tractor manufacturing unit at this facility is strategically positioned to reinforce Mahindra's market leadership in the farm equipment sector. It aims to address the rising domestic demand while simultaneously catering to crucial export markets, ensuring a comprehensive approach to agricultural machinery production.
Additional Expansion Plans in Maharashtra
In a parallel development, Mahindra Group announced plans to acquire land in the Igatpuri-Nashik region. This acquisition is intended to expand the company's existing product and engine capacities and to support the growth of its advanced technology business. The combined investments in Vidarbha and Nashik are anticipated to generate a substantial boost in industrial activity and create significant employment opportunities across Maharashtra, with a particular focus on catalyzing economic growth in the Vidarbha region.
