Modern Coach Factory Rae Bareli Set to Debut First 16-Coach Vande Bharat Rake
The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli is poised to achieve a significant milestone this month with the rollout of its first-ever 16-coach Vande Bharat chair car rake. This development represents a major advancement in the facility's manufacturing prowess and underscores its expanding role within India's premium train production network.
Manufacturing Milestones and Production Details
According to MCF General Manager Prashant Kumar Mishra, the new rake is currently undergoing rigorous testing by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). Upon receiving approval from the technical team, the Railway Board will authorize the commissioning of the rake for operational use.
Mishra highlighted MCF's impressive production statistics, noting that the factory has manufactured 1,679 coaches in the current financial year. Since April 2014, the cumulative output has reached 15,369 coaches. Of this year's production, a substantial 95% comprises general and sleeper coaches, which are specifically designed to cater to the needs of common passengers.
Enhanced Focus on Vande Bharat and Forged Wheel Production
In addition to the upcoming Vande Bharat launch, Mishra emphasized that special efforts are being made to scale up the manufacturing of Vande Bharat chair cars. This initiative aligns with the factory's commitment to advancing India's rail infrastructure.
MCF has also exceeded the Railway Board's targets for forged wheel production. By January 2026, the facility produced 54,075 wheels, with over 49,000 fully completed and stamped, demonstrating efficiency and quality in this critical component manufacturing.
Environmental Initiatives and Sustainability Efforts
The factory has implemented extensive environmental measures, including large-scale plantation drives and the construction of rainwater harvesting structures. These initiatives are capable of storing an impressive 748 million litres of water, reflecting MCF's dedication to sustainable practices alongside its industrial operations.
This rollout not only marks a technical achievement but also reinforces MCF's position as a key player in enhancing India's railway ecosystem, with a balanced focus on innovation, passenger service, and environmental responsibility.
