NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna central public sector enterprise operating under the Union coal ministry, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully commissioning the complete 300-megawatt capacity of its Barsingsar solar power project. This major renewable energy installation is situated in Barsingsar village within the Bikaner district of Rajasthan.
Project Development Under CPSU Scheme
According to an official release from the company, this substantial 300MW solar power project has been developed under the central public sector undertaking (CPSU) scheme administered by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The initiative represents a strategic move toward enhancing India's renewable energy infrastructure through public sector participation.
Phased Commissioning Process
The project's implementation followed a carefully structured phased approach. The initial phase, comprising 52.83 megawatts of capacity, was successfully commissioned in August 2025. This was followed by the second phase, during which an additional 106 megawatts of the project was declared commercially operational in November 2025.
Completion of Major Renewable Initiative
The recent commissioning of the remaining balance capacity now marks the full completion of what stands as one of the largest solar power projects implemented by NLCIL to date. This achievement underscores the company's growing commitment to renewable energy development alongside its traditional coal-based operations.
The Barsingsar solar project's successful completion represents a substantial contribution to India's renewable energy targets and demonstrates the effective implementation of government schemes through public sector enterprises. The project's location in Rajasthan, a state with abundant solar resources, positions it strategically for optimal energy generation potential.
