Ranchi: The state road construction department is preparing to launch the construction of two elevated corridors in Ranchi, aiming to ease traffic congestion in the state capital. The projects, originating at Karamtoli Chowk and Argora Chowk, are expected to cost a total of Rs 820 crore, officials said.
Administrative Approval Granted
Sunil Kumar, secretary of the department, stated, “The state cabinet has already granted administrative approval for the projects. The bill of quantities required for the competitive bidding process has been finalized, and the tender for both projects will be floated within a week.”
Karamtoli Elevated Corridor
The proposed Karamtoli elevated corridor will connect Karamtoli Chowk to the Science City flyover, spanning 3.216 km. Once operational, it will facilitate smooth travel through Antu Chowk, Divyan Chowk, Science City, and Chiraundi Chowk. The flyover is expected to reduce traffic on key roads such as Circular Road, Bariatu Road, Morabadi, and the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences zone. Vehicles entering Ranchi from Ramgarh and Hazaribag can use the flyover to cut travel time.
Department sources said the project includes a 2.7 km main flyover from Karamtoli to Science City in Chiraundi and a 0.52 km dedicated link road to Morabadi. The total sanctioned budget for this stretch is Rs 351.14 crore, covering expenses for land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, utility shifting, afforestation, and landscaping.
Argora Elevated Corridor
The second project at Argora Chowk features an elevated corridor from Harmu to the Dibdih bridge, with dedicated legs branching towards Kathal More (Chaputoli) and Ashok Nagar (near Road No. 3), covering a total distance of 3.804 km. The project has received administrative approval for Rs 469.62 crore.
This multi-legged structure is expected to streamline travel at Argora Chowk, Old Argora Chowk, and Argora-Kathal More, reducing traffic load in neighboring hubs like Harmu, Birsa Chowk, Kadru, and Pundag. The flyover will also provide an uninterrupted conduit for heavy intercity traffic from Khunti, Simdega, and Gumla, officials said.
