Trichy Railway Division Excels with 95.5% Punctuality and Strong Financial Growth
The Trichy railway division has demonstrated remarkable operational efficiency, achieving an impressive 95.5% punctuality rate for express, passenger, and on-demand trains as of December 2025. This performance is particularly noteworthy given a 5% increase in the operation of regular train services during the period, highlighting the division's ability to manage higher traffic without compromising on timeliness.
National Ranking and Year-on-Year Improvement
During the Republic Day celebrations at the Trichy railway stadium on Monday, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Balak Ram Negi announced that the punctuality registered a marginal improvement compared to the corresponding period of the last financial year. More significantly, the division secured the fifth place out of 69 divisions in all-India punctuality performance, underscoring its position as one of the top-performing railway divisions in the country.
Financial and Passenger Traffic Growth
In addition to operational excellence, the Trichy division has shown robust financial health. Negi reported that the division earned ₹423.9 crore during the current financial year (till December 2025), marking a substantial increase of 9.6% over the corresponding period last year. Passenger traffic also saw a healthy rise, with around 30.9 million passengers handled in the current financial year, representing a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Safety and Infrastructure Enhancements
To ensure public safety and enable trains to run at higher speeds, the division has undertaken several key infrastructure upgrades. Seven level crossing gates were interlocked, a critical measure for reducing accidents and improving efficiency. Furthermore, CCTV cameras were installed at 13 non-interlocked level crossing gates, enhancing surveillance and security across the network.
Station Redevelopment Under Amrit Bharat Scheme
Under the Amrit Bharat Stations (ABS) redevelopment proposal, significant progress has been made in modernizing railway infrastructure. DRM Negi confirmed that Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, and Vellore Cantonment stations have been redeveloped and are now ready for inauguration. This initiative aims to upgrade passenger amenities and improve overall travel experience, aligning with broader national efforts to revitalize railway stations.
Republic Day Celebrations and Ceremonial Honors
The announcements were made during the Republic Day celebrations, where DRM Negi unfurled the national flag and took the salute at a ceremonial parade presented by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The event highlighted the division's commitment to national pride and operational discipline, reinforcing its achievements in a festive setting.
Overall, the Trichy railway division's performance in punctuality, financial growth, and infrastructure development sets a high benchmark for railway operations in India, contributing to enhanced passenger satisfaction and safety.
