Uttar Pradesh Government Greenlights Major Sugar Industry Expansion in Baghpat
The Uttar Pradesh state government has taken a significant step to boost its agricultural and industrial sectors by granting formal approval for a revised project proposal to establish a brand-new sugar mill in the Baghpat district. This crucial decision was made during a high-level meeting held on Friday.
Key Approvals for Baghpat's Sugar Sector
The meeting of the Project Formulation and Evaluation Division, which was chaired by Chief Secretary SP Goyal, resulted in two major approvals aimed at modernizing and expanding the region's sugar production capabilities.
Firstly, the government sanctioned the establishment of a completely new sugar mill in Baghpat. Secondly, and equally important, it approved a substantial upgrade for the existing Kisan Sahkari Chini Mill, also located in Baghpat. This upgrade involves a major increase in its crushing capacity.
Doubling Production Capacity with Modern Technology
The approved plan will see the crushing capacity of the Kisan Sahkari Chini Mill surge from its current level of 2,500 Tonnes of Cane per Day (TCD) to an impressive 5,000 TCD. This represents a 100% increase, effectively doubling the mill's daily processing power.
The expansion project is not just about scale; it is also focused on technological advancement. The upgrade will incorporate the latest technology equipment. With this new machinery, the mill will be capable of crushing 5,000 TCD of sugarcane within an average operational window of just 22 hours, enhancing both efficiency and output.
Substantial Financial Investment and State Support
The total proposed cost for this comprehensive expansion and establishment project is estimated to be around Rs 407 crore. Demonstrating strong commitment, the state government has outlined a robust financial support package.
- The government will finance 50% of the required share capital directly.
- For the remaining amount, the state will provide a loan facility to ensure the project's financial viability and smooth execution.
This initiative is expected to provide a major impetus to the local economy in Baghpat, supporting sugarcane farmers, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening Uttar Pradesh's position as a leading sugar-producing state in India. The approvals mark a forward-looking move towards industrial growth and agricultural prosperity in the region.
