Vizag Emerges as IT Powerhouse with Major Investments and Job Creation
In a significant development for Andhra Pradesh's economic landscape, District Collector Harendira Prasad announced on Monday that Visakhapatnam is witnessing a massive influx of IT giants, poised to transform the city into a major technology hub. Speaking at an event where he unfurled the tricolour flag at the parade ground, Prasad revealed that numerous IT corporations are establishing their presence in Vizag with substantial investments, aiming to generate an impressive 1.1 lakh job opportunities for the local populace.
Major IT Firms and Infrastructure Boost
The government has allocated land to 16 prominent IT firms, including global leaders such as Google, TCS, and Cognizant, through the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). These companies are set to invest a staggering Rs 10,600 crore in the region, marking a pivotal moment for Vizag's economic growth. Prasad emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city's infrastructure and connectivity.
In line with this, 27 km of master plan roads are currently under construction, with an estimated cost of Rs 175 crore, specifically designed to support the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. Additionally, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has proposed 15.7 km of roads with an estimated budget of Rs 70 crore to interlink airport connectivity roads, ensuring seamless transportation for businesses and residents alike.
Progress in Rural Development and Education
Beyond the IT sector, Prasad highlighted several key achievements in rural development and education. Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), 8 road works have been completed, with another 160 works in progress across a 27 km stretch of 168 CC roads. Furthermore, initiatives under Palle Panduga 2.0 have commenced, involving 144 CC and BT roads, while 13.7 km of roads under the Nabard scheme are also underway.
In the education sector, Prasad noted that approximately 68,000 students from 580 government and aided schools are benefiting from the Mid-Day Meal scheme, underscoring the government's commitment to student welfare and nutrition. He also mentioned the distribution of 14,423 pattadar pass books following the completion of resurvey in 36 villages, with resurvey efforts completed in 53 out of 85 villages across four rural mandals in the district.
Recognition and Future Prospects
During the event, Prasad distributed meritorious awards to employees across various departments, acknowledging their contributions to the district's development. He expressed optimism about Vizag's future, stating that the combined efforts in IT investment, infrastructure, and rural development are set to propel the city into a new era of prosperity and growth. The announcements reflect a holistic approach to urban and rural advancement, positioning Visakhapatnam as a key player in India's economic narrative.
