Ghaziabad: A 22-year-old medical aspirant was found dead at his residence in Pratap Vihar on Friday morning, two days before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for June 21. Police recovered a video from his mobile phone, apparently recorded shortly before his death, in which the youth said he had grown weary of the exam cycle.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, identified as Jatin Kumar, had been preparing for the NEET UG examination for some time. His family informed the police that he had been pacing in his room until midnight, after which other household members retired for the night. When family members went to wake him the following morning, they found him unresponsive on the floor.
Police Investigation
His brother Lalit Mohan contacted Dial 112 at 8.15 am. Teams from Vijay Nagar police station and the forensics unit reached the spot shortly after and conducted an on-site investigation. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination.
ACP Nagar Kotwali Upasana Pandey stated that the video recovered from Jatin's phone, timestamped around midnight, appeared to have been recorded before his death. In the video, Jatin mentioned that his father had often advised him not to take stress, and that he himself was not under pressure, but that he had become tired of the process and wanted to do something different.
Background on NEET Exam
The National Testing Agency had cancelled the May 3 entrance exam following allegations of a paper leak and other examination irregularities. The incident has once again highlighted the immense pressure faced by medical aspirants in the country.
This tragic event underscores the need for mental health support and stress management among students preparing for competitive exams.
