The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has officially released the summer vacation schedule for government schools, along with a plan for remedial classes aimed at students in classes 9, 10, and 12. According to an official circular issued on Friday, the summer break will commence on May 11 and continue until June 30. Concurrently, remedial sessions are scheduled to run from May 11 to May 23, subject to the availability of teachers and school facilities.
Objective of Remedial Classes
The DoE has stated that the primary goal of these remedial sessions is to reinforce fundamental concepts and enhance overall learning outcomes for students. The circular emphasizes that classes will be held during the morning hours to create a conducive environment for focused study and structured learning.
Class Timings and Structure
As per the notification, remedial classes will operate from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Teachers are required to report to school by 7:20 AM and remain until 11:00 AM. Each day will consist of three periods, each lasting one hour. In schools operating on a double-shift system, remedial sessions will be conducted in separate wings to avoid any disruption to regular activities.
Focus on Core Subjects
For students in classes 9 and 10, the primary emphasis will be on Science and Mathematics. However, school heads have been granted flexibility to incorporate other subjects based on academic needs, result analysis, and teacher availability. The notification states: "For classes 9 and 10, the focus will be on Science and Mathematics, though heads of school may choose other subjects based on academic requirements, result analysis and availability of subject teachers." For class 12, subject selection will be determined by school heads according to student requirements.
Instructions for Schools
The DoE has directed school heads to prepare timetables in advance and submit them to the concerned Deputy Director of Education (DDE) before the vacation begins. Schools are also required to inform students and parents through available communication channels. Attendance during remedial classes will be recorded online, and students must wear school uniforms. Parental consent is mandatory for participation.
Support and Monitoring System
The circular specifies that library facilities will remain open for self-study and book issuance throughout the remedial period. Teachers are instructed to focus on improving student performance. Schools must ensure basic amenities, such as clean drinking water, for attending students. Guest and contract teachers may be engaged if necessary. Regular teachers assigned to remedial classes will be granted earned leave, while guest teachers will be compensated according to norms. The DoE has further directed Deputy Directors of Education at district and zonal levels to ensure proper implementation of the program and conduct daily visits to at least two schools running remedial classes.
