Former President Ram Nath Kovind awarded degrees to 423 undergraduate and postgraduate students at the 51st convocation of DAV College in Hoshiarpur on Sunday. The ceremony marked the culmination of the institution's centenary year celebrations.
Chief Guest's Address
Addressing the graduates, Kovind emphasized that a degree is not the end of learning but the beginning of a new phase of life brimming with opportunities and responsibilities. He urged students to harness education as a tool for nation-building and contribute to India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Kovind lauded DAV College's remarkable 100-year journey, noting that it has steadfastly preserved the ideals of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. He appreciated the college management, teachers, and staff for maintaining academic excellence while fostering innovation and cultural values.
The former president encouraged students to embrace research, innovation, and skill development. He advised them to stay connected to their roots, respect their parents and teachers, and work with compassion and commitment for the country's progress.
Centenary Celebrations
College Principal Vinay Kumar described the 51st convocation as a historic occasion, coinciding with the centenary year. He reaffirmed the institution's commitment to providing quality education and producing responsible citizens over the past century.
The convocation was held under the patronage of Dr Anoop Kumar, President of the College Managing Committee, and Prof RM Bhalla, Secretary of the committee. Their leadership has been instrumental in guiding the college through its centenary milestones.
Distinguished Guests
Avinash Rai Khanna, vice-chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society and former Member of Parliament, along with Prof Ravi Inder Singh, Dean of the College Development Council at Panjab University, Chandigarh, attended as guests of honour. Both congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to society.
The event underscored DAV College's legacy of academic excellence and its role in shaping future leaders. With 423 students receiving their degrees, the convocation celebrated not only individual achievements but also the institution's century-long dedication to higher education.
